Ai Tre Scalini in Rome

Ai Tre Scalini
via Panisperna, 251 (Rione Monti)
00184 Roma
tel. 0648907495

Another good find in the Roman winebar circuit. I was actually attempting to go to my favorite winebar, La Barrique, but they happened to be closed. We got back on the Vespa and passed another place whose dimmed lighting and old-style wooden bar made it seem very enticing. What a nice find! The staff was very cordial, and seated us in the back room and immediately offered some snacks. The ambiance was pleasant, with comfortable couches, non-obtrusive lighting, and best of all, wifi access! We ordered a bottle of Virtu' Romane, an inexpensive delicious Frascati white and a plate of assorted salamis and cheeses. They must be doing something right, as the sign out front says that they've been around since 1895! Highly recommended.

Ahh you found the "Cheers" of Monti. eheheheh (I live in the zone) and it is the hang out as its almost always open, decent food, a good greek salad and they always smile when you are a regular. i wish their wine list was a bit more exploratory but heck, its a five minute walk from my house and thats not bad.

Try also the "L'impiccione viaggiatore" in the same area. Not a real restaurant, but a cheerful bar, which during the day is a travel bookshop. Via della Madonna dei Monti 28

Nice blog and I like your wine company idea. How is it going. Don't know much about Rome. We live way north. Do you have favorite wines from the Veneto region? I tend to prefer reds from the South as they remind me somewhat of the California wines.

Hello Brendan, I came here via Shelley. I've lived in Rome before, many years ago and I didn't eat out but once or twice (college budget). Now I'm coming back for a little weekend vacation and I'm researching online. Your posts are really helpful, by the way, for translations and ESPECIALLY what to except in restaurants culture-wise.

If I can bug you...? Do you know of a good trattoria with seafood? I have SiciliinBocca on the list, but maybe you know of another? We don't get much seafood in Switzerland and I'm thinking to gorge myself on it while I have the chance. :)
P.S. - it's difficult to leave comment here for WordPress users. I'll leave my old blog, that's all it'll let me do

Yes, feel free to bug me all you want. As for another fish restaurant, I have heard from several reliable sources that the Tana dei Re is very good. However, I have never been there.

Yesterday, following your advice I went to "Ai tre scalini" and indeed, it was really nice, especially since it wasn't too crowded. Friendly waitresses, laid-back atmosphere, free "stuzzichini", nice people, ...
Try the Belgian beer (Westmalle)! If you discover other places like this one, please update us on your blog!
